Good Friday - Day 4 of the Passover

passioncross.jpgToday is Good Friday. Remembrance of the day Jesus died on the cross. He died for the sins of the world. I believe He died also for me, for that I am grateful.

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16

star_of_david.JPGToday is also day 4 of the Jewish Passover. Passover commemorates the time when God freed Israel from the captivity in Egypt.

I Voted Today

Today was an important elections in Wisconsin for the State Supreme Court Justice. I did my civic duty and cast my vote. I hope the candidate I voted for wins, as these are significant elections in the history of the State’s Supreme Court. And the results are …. she did win indeed.

Palm Sunday

sarasota_florida15.jpgToday is Palm Sunday. This commemorates the time when Jesus entered Jerusalem Sunday before the Passion Week. His entry into Jerusalem was greeted by the people laying down palm branches under His feet - hence Palm Sunday. The same people will shout out to crucify Him just a few days later. This Sunday kicks off the series of evens that lead to the most important event in the history of Christianity and the world - the suffering, death and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The history of the world was changed that week.

Way To Go Toshiba!

My mother bought a Toshiba laptop last year on January 9th. A year later, 6 days after the manufacturer’s warranty expired her Toshiba laptop broke. It looks like the laptop’s motherboard fried. The cost to fix it was $900. Go figure. She has not used the laptop that much and she took a good care of it, but things happen. She was left without her primary (and only) communication device. Using Skype she stays in touch with the family and friends all over the world.

She was quite upset when the computer broke. She spoke with a friend, a nice guy who works at CDW.com about her dilemma. The nice guy told her that he would contact the manufacturer and ask if they can extend the warranty by a few days to cover this problem. After 5 days of nervous wait, Toshiba called and said that they will fix it under the original, one year manufacturer’s warranty.

Needless to say, my mom was happy and as soon as she got her Toshiba laptop back, she was calling all over the world using her favorite Skype. Life is good again.

Thank you Toshiba! Thank you the nice guy from CDW.com! Great customer service is still well and alive. Keep it up!

Blogging and Vacation

blog, travel, family by marek No Comments »

arizonavacation.jpgLast week I found out that blogging and being on vacation does not mix well. The intentions were there I promise, the subject matter plenty, but no execution. It also did not help that there was no Internet connection on premises. Needless to say I was not posting much last week. Sorry.

Last week we were on vacation in Phoenix, AZ where the temperatures were in record 90’s for this time of year. It was wonderful. Chilling by the pool, sun bathing, driving to Sedona and the Grand Canyon were the required activities of the week. We took lots of pictures which we will share in the next few days. That is a beautiful part of the Union in many ways: the weather, the view, the landscape, and the people were very friendly.

From our non-rev travels to Arizona we learned this time to stay at the gate until the airplane leaves, no matter what, no matter that all seats were taken, no matter that there were 20+ stand-by, non-rev passengers above you. But because they were not at the gate just before the departure, we took advantage of the fact that 4 regular passengers missed their flight due to whatever unfortunate for them circumstances. It was pretty amazing. Some told us we were crazy to non-rev travel during the Spring Training and the Spring break. All went well. Some would call it “so lucky” others call it being in the right place at the right time, while we call it being very blessed.

On the way back from Phoenix there were no empty seats for couple of days in a row so we drove to San Diego, CA to catch a flight. It was a nice 5+ hour drive through Arizona and California’s dessert dunes and mountains.

We definitely would like to go back to Phoenix Arizona some day again.

Politics and Religion

pol_relegion.png“There are two things that I do not talk about, politics and religion!” - is a common response of anyone who has an aversion to either of these topics. At Think This // blog we do not share such distaste for either. No, I am not fond of religion and what it stands for. “Religion” is a loaded term. It has many bad connotations that I do not like to be associated with. Rather than “religion,“ I prefer talking about “faith” or a relationship with God. Religion does not help, God does. Religion does not save, Jesus does. Often, religion spreads hate and promotes weird ideas; Jesus offers love and promotes grace.

Politics - I like to talk and discuss politics from time to time, and hope to mention some political topics right here on this blog. With the presidential elections coming up, this will provide lots of interesting takes.

That’s all for this post. Your feedback in comment section is appreciated.4

Da Vinci Code Strikes Back? Another Sham?

tombboximage.jpgThe producer of the movie Titanic, James Cameron made a movie about to be released. With the help of his director Simcha Jacobovici, they are claiming that they found a tomb with the remains of Jesus Christ and his family. In the movie, they are preach that Jesus Christ did not resurrect but his body was buried in the family tomb in Talpiyot, Israel along with 9 of his family members.

They claim DNA evidence to prove their case. DNA evidence?! Then their case must be solid as a rock and should be case closed. Well, not so fast. What does the DNA evidence mean here? Did they find in one of the bodies a God gene? Or did they compare this DNA to the DNA on Shroud of Turin? For DNA evidence to have any weight in establishing identity you need another sampling from a sure source. For example a criminal suspect’s DNA sampling compared with a DNA sampling found on his victims body proves that he is the perpetrator. You need two sources of DNA to make a conclusive comparison. In this case DNA testing may reveal that all 9 people are related to each other. Well, chances are that they are related since they are buried together. So what? Read the rest of this entry »

Attitude is everything – a lesson from non-rev travel

travel by marek 1 Comment »

Thanks to my wife, who works as a flight attendant with Midwest Airlines, a week ago we went on a quick trip to Florida. We left on Saturday morning and returned Sunday night. It was a fast trip but very much needed. It provided a nice break from the Wisconsin winter. We went to Sarasota, FL to visit grandma and grandpa.

pinkflamingo.jpgWe traveled as non-rev (non-revenue) passengers. This means that our tickets were stand-by. If there are extra seats on the airplane we go, if not, we stay. Everyone who travels using this non-rev employee benefit knows this and is prepared for the worst.

A night before the computer system showed that there were still 6 seats available. At 6:30 in the morning of the next day we showed up at the gate. We only needed 3 seats. (Lynnea was working that weekend.) As the time drew closer to departure at 7:30, the gate agent informed us that due to the weight and balance of the air plane we will not be able to go. Disappointed we started to draw a contingency plan.

A Morning Prayer

faith by marek No Comments »
boehme_portrait_1730.jpgRule over me this day, O God, leading me on the path of righteousness. Put your Word in my mind and your Truth in my heart, that this day I neither think nor feel anything except what is good and honest. Protect me from all lies and falsehood, helping me to discern deception wherever I meet it. Let my eyes look straight ahead on the road you wish me to tread, that I might not be tempted by any distraction. And make my eyes pure, that no false desire may be awakened within me.

- Jakob Böhme (1575-1624) was a humble German shoemaker whose writings influenced Christians across Europe. He composed a set of simple, direct prayers to be used through the day.
